The Evidence

People love those “before-and-after pictures”, so here are a few.

I was looking for some family pictures for my son to take into daycare, and I came across this one. My boy, 2 in this picture, is 5 now. He asked, “Who is that fat lady?” Like a knife to the heart, folks. The sad irony here is that I was a “power walker” and participating in a walk-a-thon fundraiser. I actually thought I was in good shape here. Oy!

This is the last known “before” picture. There aren’t many. In fact, there was a very good chance that my kids would never have photographic evidence of having had a mother.

I don’t know why my husband looks so damn happy here. I was hiding in all black, formless clothes and heavily self-medicating with the ever-present glass of wine.

This is me at the beginning of the the training program. I am working for it in my super sweat-absorbant cotton Tshirt. I know, I look HOT – just not that kind of HOT.

OK, that’s me on the right. The hot pink chic is my coach and lifesaver. We call her “Sarge” for exactly the reasons you might imagine. I love her. I am finally starting to look a little like I’m equipped for the sport, if not yet quite the lean, mean, running machine of my dreams. Whew! That’s a lot of rhyming.

And here I am most recently, in my soul soothing spot: our vacation house in Maine. Happy!
