Your First Race
2-3 Weeks Out
This is time for you settle on what you will be wearing and eating. This is last call for any changes to your routine.
1 Week out
The final week before race day is taper week. Cut down on your mileage, drink plenty of water (all week long), and get adequate rest. It all counts, all week.
The day before:
Try to keep your normal routine. Stay off your feet as much as possible.
Go to packet pick-up and review all the info inside.
Double check logistics. Make sure you know where you are going, where you can park, and what time you need to be there.
Lay out your gear: bra, top, shorts/tights, socks, shoes
Pack a bag with all the necessary extras like:
- hat/visor/headband
- sunglasses
- sunscreen, chapstick, BodyGlide
- bib number,safety pins, chip timer
- post-race snack/drink
- spare shoes and/or shirt
Race Day!
Try to carpool.
Eat early and light.
Expect a crowd.
Pin your number on front.
Get into your pace group for staging.
Go out slow – your first mile should be your slowest.
Pass politely.
Go hard late.
Have fun!
